WEEKLY JOURNAL

The part of my Job I will miss the most is the people, I have met so many great people that have helped me and guided me through so much. Not just the teachers I have helped but others through out the school, also office people. I have really enjoyed my time here and will miss the students I have met. They were so great with me and had so much respect for me since I had respect with them. I have nothing negative to say about my experience and will remember my time spent there. I now know 100% that I want to pursue this job as my full time career.

The teachers that I helped made it fun and enjoyable to work there. Saying goodbye was hard since I loved going there and getting to know the kids better. I hope that I will be like the teachers I have helped when I get older since they have such great experience and knowledge while dealing with the students. This experience will help me so much in the future because it has given me much more confidence. I have learnt things there that other wise I would have had no clue about. Looking back on my co-op experience I feel more confident that I could make it as a teacher in the future.

Thursday June 14 2007

I was sad that today was my last day at co-op; I now realize how much I really enjoyed myself at the placement. My last day went by very fast beginning with my first task, which was cutting out 48 grad hats. I traced the hats onto blue paper. Once I was done I had to staple the hats to strips of black paper which will be used for the part that wraps around their heads. Once I was done that I had to start cutting out the students pictures from the morning and afternoon. This took me awhile because I took my time to make sure I didn’t cut the actual picture. Then I glued the back of the picture and stuck it to the grad hat, in the end the grad hats looked really good!

My next task took me awhile; I had to mark 5 pages out of each student spelling books. Before I knew it, it was snack time and I got ready to give Mrs. MacDonald the gift I had bought her. Mrs. MacDonald made a speech in front of her class thanking me for all my hard work through out the semester, and then handed me a gift which was unnecessary but I was very thankful. After the break the other two class rooms I help out called me over and to my surprise they were all in one room and had a little presentation for me thanking me again for all my work. This put me in a good mood because it mad me happy knowing how much I have helped them and how much they appreciate it. For the rest of the afternoon the students were outside playing and I went out their with them to help watch with Mrs. MacDonald.

Wednesday June 13 2007

Today I was in the other Jk classroom; my first task was to organize a big messy pile of work. There were different things like craft ideas, work that has been done and kept for examples and also student information. So It was my job to organize it and file it were it belongs. It took me awhile since I made sure I was filing it properly. I made 3 piles, one was for art the students have done and kept for examples, the other one was student information, and the third was ideas for future arts.

After I was done all this I helped the class with their work, they were making number booklets and many of them were getting confused with the order in which they go. So I went around and helped them organize the book. After all of them finished I went around and stapled there booklets together.

The students were having play time while I started my next project. I had to attach paperclips to the ends of strings for a project they will be doing tomorrow. After the break I made my way back to Mrs. MacDonald’s room, there the class was watching a movie and I had to start taking down bulletin boards. I started with the dinosaur board, next I moved to the butterfly display. Once I was done all this I cleaned the tables and stacked the chairs.

Tuesday June 12 2007

Today I was with the next door Jk class, since there was a lot to get done. First I had to cut out the student’s school pictures nicely and glue it on the handprint. Last week I made Handprints with them, I had to trace their hand then cut it out and glue it and dunk it in sparkles. I had to put a lot of glue on the back of the picture to make sure it stayed since it doesn’t always stick because of the sparkles. Once I was done this I had to cut these flat magnets into strips and stick them onto the back of these clothes pins. At the end I had to glue the clothespin onto the back of the hand so that they could clip their handprint onto whatever they wanted.

Once I was done all this I had to start their Fathers day cards. Last week I had to cut 48 paper ties and 48 paper pockets, so this week I got to use them. First I had to fold the cut pieces to make a collar, and then I glued the paper tie underneath the collar. Once I was done that I had to make little tissues to glue on the back of the pocket that I glued at the top right of the card. Once I was done all that the students had to come and write their names on the back of the card.

After the break I was still in the same class room I did not go to Mrs. MacDonald’s room. The teacher had to do some report card testing with the student’s one at a time so I had to watch over the class. It went well, we played bingo and they all had fun.

Monday June 11 2007

Today my first job was to just separate papers for the art center there were a lot to go through but I finished on time, just before the students arrived. Some of the students were away last week when we did all of our Fathers day crafts, so since Fathers day is on the weekend I had to get them done. So right when they got in I started to call them over and finish.

The students had a hard task to do today so I got to go around and help them since many needed my help. They had to write three sentences in their Writing books about what they like to do in the summer. I also had to help one of the students who were away all last week catch up on the pages he missed in his writing book. At the end of the day since I had ten minutes I made sure the tables were washed and the chairs were stacked.

Friday June 8 2007

My first task today was to write starter letters for the students in there writing books, I had to write in capital letters F, J and I. F on the first line then J on the next and I on the last. To help them spell out Fathers day is June 17. I love my Dad. I had to write this out in each student’s book for the morning and afternoon. After, they had to draw a picture of themselves with their Dad.

Once I finished doing this the class was ready to start, I went around the class room and helped them with their spelling, most of them knew what they were doing so I could start my next task which was preparing there end of the year booklets. I had to take down pictures they colored of themselves at the beginning of the year down from the wall, then I had to match it with there booklets and tape the picture on the front page.

After I was done I had to go into the hall and take down a bulletin board, that had a bunch of there work on it. We had to take it down since it’s the end of the year and the school wants them to be clean.

Before the end of the day I made sure the tables and classroom was clean I washed down the tables and stacked the chairs.

Thursday June 7 2007

My first task today was to staple blank pieces of paper into a work book that the students will be finishing at the end of the week. The book consists of a picture they drew on the first day of senior kindergarten, the picture was stamped with the date they drew it. Friday they are going to color another picture to show how much they have improved through out the year. I had to do this for the morning and afternoon Class.

The students work today was a bit complicated so they needed lots of help, so it was my job to go and help the students that needed it. They had a sheet of 10 different words and they needed to come up with words that rhymed with them.

Before break time I took all the work out of the morning bucket and marked everything, it took me awhile but I did finish before break.

All week the students have been making things for their Fathers for Fathers day. It was my job to take all their work and group it and make a scroll for each student. I rolled it up then tied a ribbon around the work, I had to make sure I put there name on the outside so we knew who to give it to.
